First Generation Leadership FY4
Emily G. Spencer Co-Lead
Emily graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in her home state of New Jersey. Upon graduation she entered the energy industry and worked for offshore drilling contractors in operations, and most recently as a project manager for a classification society. Outside of work, you can find her baking, traveling, and strolling around the streets of NYC enjoying all the pizza she can find. She also enjoys taking photos of NYC and often takes her camera on her walking pizza tours. Being an active member of SWE is very important to her and she understands the challenges that come along with being a first-generation engineer and is excited to work with her fellow SWE members to grow and support this affinity group dedicated to the first-generation experience. |
Ivy Kwok Co-Lead
Ivy is currently a third-year PhD Candidate in Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), her alma mater where she also earned her B.S. in Molecular, Cell, & Developmental Biology (+ Environmental Engineering minor) and her M.S. in Civil & Environmental Engineering. Outside of the lab, you'll often find her aboard public transit, as she enjoys going on food adventures with loved ones, pogo-sticking, attending her favorite disco ball dance workout, and staying active in the sustainability community! Additionally, being a first-generation college student is one of her most salient identities, and she is so excited to meet and work with fellow affinity group members to create more senses of belonging, empowerment, and fun. |
