Dr. Deborah Whitis

Dr. Deborah DeMania Whitis joined GE Aerospace in Evendale, Ohio in 1995 after a B.S.M.E. from University of Illinois, and an M.S.M.E. from MIT.  While at GE Aerospace, she received an M.S. in Materials Science from the University of Cincinnati, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Virginia.  She has held roles in Material Development, Systems Engineering, Component Design, Stress Analysis, Life Management, and Additive Manufacturing.   In 2019 she became the first female Executive Chief Consulting Engineer for GE Aerospace.  She is active in her local South Ohio SWE section, serving as Outreach Chair from 2022-2024, and is the SWE Executive Sponsor for GE Aerospace in the SWE Corporate Partnership Council (CPC).  She is the mother of 14 year old and 9 year old boys, and enjoys gardening, hiking, learning Italian, and traveling to National Parks with her boys and her husband, Russ..

Bing is a research scientist at IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA.  She grew up in China, and she has been in the United States for almost 10 years. She got her Master and Ph.D. degrees from Texas A&M University. Bing is very passionate about efforts aimed at bridging the gender gap in the engineering industry and empowering women to achieve their full potential in the workforce. In her free time, she likes swimming and baking.
